From Tuscany to Winston

So, in order to keep ourselves completely occupado this weekend, we had a long to-do list.  Mom and Dad took us on a decorating shopping spree Saturday.  We went to help mom look for fabric and find fabric for some couch pillows and our new chair.  We ended up with fabric for the huge windows/sliding glass door in the great room.  The best part? We bought it at the first place we went to, and then Mom found it at the second place and had me ask how much it was. Ready?  Ready for this? $59.99 A YARD, people.  I almost laughed out loud in the face of the woman behind the counter.  We came home with some great samples.  I'll get to that in a minute.
So, after the fabric, we went to this huge furniture store to start the search for dining room furniture.  We've been using Mom and Dad's old stuff.  Well, unfortunately, I fell in love with a $12K table.  Not including chairs.  HAH.  Also, mom discovered a $10K leather armchair.  Seriously, do you know what I could do with $10K?  It's not buy a chair.  Or a table.  So, when I was running out of steam, they brought us to the place where they recently bought their table - the table we are super-jealous of.  And, there it was.  Our new table and 6 new chairs.  Pictures to come once it's delivered!
So, after whipping out the plastic there, we met Sherry back at the house to inspect our fabric samples:

Surprisingly, the Moms and I agreed that hubby could keep the back of his beloved chair and use a striped fabric on the front:

And, here's our super-expensive fabric that we got an amazing deal on:

It is beautiful and perfect.  It goes with the color of the walls beautifully and ties in with the rug.  Oh!  And it goes with our new pillows (which do not photograph well) that I made today!

So, back to Saturday night.  After all the parents left, hubby started in on the backsplash.  In two hours, he finished one whole wall (with me on prep and cleanup duty - someone hasta get all the mastic off the tiles), while Winston helped me get started on the curtains.  I mean, drapes, Mom =)

And by this afternoon, our kitchen went from that to this:

WOOHOO!!!  We even had time to give Winston another Mommy-cut.  I think I'm getting pretty good:

Meanwhile, I worked to get a mock-up of the swag of our new curtains up to see how it looks:

The coloring seems to be off on everything today, but it's a start.

Anyway, now we are all just plumb tuckered out.  Good night!

Sending another one your way, God.

The weekend update: Turnberry Love is still there and welcomed us in for very short showers this weekend.

I'm just not sure where to start, to be honest.  I wasn't ready to send this one God's way, and it sure was a shock.  The day she left us, it rained.  She left as Mom and I touched down in Albany.  When I close my eyes and put my phone up to my ear, I swear I can still hear her laughing about Winston's antics.

And we have had a long goodbye with Grandma.  This weekend was especially long, with 2 nights of hourly medicine dispensing.  It's raining today.  This morning, while I was away at a class and with her hand in hubby's hand,  Grandma slipped away from us:

I swear that I could feel her back at Turnberry Love as I enjoyed a much longer shower.  I am also pretty sure Winston was just downstairs talking with her.  In one of my 15 min cat-naps at 4am one night this weekend, she came to visit me.  The healthy Grandma plunked herself down next to me and told me she was tired, ready to leave, and that she loved us very much.

I guess that's why the name "Turnberry Love" came to me as I started this blog.  Travis and I have been blessed, surrounded by love, our entire lives.  And, as people slip away from us, the power, energy, and impact of their love continues on with us.  The physical presence of our grandparents, friends, and family may not always be with us, but their love continues on and strengthens us forever.

If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people. - TNH

Well, unless you want a close up of the baseboards I scrubbed in our bathroom or evidence of just how well the vacuum works, there's not much of an update this weekend!  Hubby was on grandma duty for most of both days, and I was in major cleaning mode (and acting as geek squad for my mom =) ).  We also hit up a furniture store in search of a dining room set.  We found nothing.  That will be quite the search, I am a-feared.

We did, however, take some time out Sat afternoon to take pics of Jared and Jordan.  I won't share many since I don't want to steal their thunder, but I have to say, this photo shoot turned out to be a little trying.  First, they forgot Daisy (I had visions of the poor pup with a paw on either side of her cheek, screaming, a-la Home Alone...).  Winston joined us and kept sneaking into the photo ops, as did random hikers.  Then, it was quite difficult to get the boys (ok, and girls) reigned in from goofing off...

OK, guys now walk toward me:

Best part?  When I had them walk away, they didn't stop at the end of the bridge...

And then, we tried a "family photo" but Winston was more interested in doling out the kisses...

Psh, two can play that game:

While hubby worked on his Sean Connery (Ok, I can't lie.  I think he looks super-handsome...)

And his... well, I don't know (which left me clueless and Jared and Jordan snickering):

And which then just left me in freezing stitches (my fingers were bright pink...).

But after all that, I think we did get a couple of great shots:

Happy Friday!

How can you not love what you do when you can look up from the computer screen and see this?

A thing of beauty

One more thing for today! While hubby has been putting 3 gallons of paint on the hallway, I have been working on the new pantry. I am just so excited I had to share immediately. Sadly, there isn't a food way to get a full shot of all it's glory.

Paint count... 24 Gallons I think?

Hubby has been doing quite a bit of painting this weekend!  His bench is done, and we bought the hooks yesterday!  He also finished painting that little hallway.  So, the before:

And the after - almost the same position...

The little black things on the bench are the hooks that haven't made it up yet :)

The pantry is almost ready for the stuff to be returned (it's on the other side of that lovely bench):

And last night, Winston helped me sew up the valances for the office:

We got more picture hangers last night and have plans to have the cable guy come out to put in another connection for Travis's new TV, so hopefully I'll have official "after" pics of the office soon!  Travis also bought paint for the second full bathroom, so we might have a picture of that soon too =)  You just never know!

NewYear, New Progress.

Happy New Year!

After a slow start this morning, we managed to get quite a bit accomplished.  Travis worked on the shelves in the kitchen pantry until a freak rainstorm sent him painting in the hallway:

I did quite a bit of cleanup work today, took down all the Christmas decorations, made another pillow and actually fixed the one I had made...

Finally rehung our Savannah painting and finally put the fishing wire to good use (hard to see those glass globes in the window in the dark, though)...

Winston update: he hated the noise.  Note the tail-down, miserable glare I am receiving...
