A quick catch up...

What have we been up to?  Anything to avoid doing work in that bathroom =)  Well, that's not exactly true.  We decided to do some work on the cabinet for the bathroom before I paint it.  We headed out to the salvo place to find new doors to give it a new edge last weekend.  There were LOTs of doors.

But no darn doors the size of OUR doors!  ARG!!!

Nothing would work.  We headed to Lowe's and picked out some trim to spice up the doors.  Today, hubby started making some noise, and when I headed into the kitchen, this is what I saw!

A thing of beauty, no?  This was clearly the result of a boost in confidence as a result of hubby's work on Saturday.  I went out with my parents to find a replacement for my birthday present (long story, but I am ever so grateful!), and I came back to an almost completely installed storm door on the front of the house!

The door was a bit too snug, so hubby got to bring out one of his favorite toys, basically a mini circular saw, and cut away some of the door jam to make it fit!

I got home in time to hold the door and the door jam, hand over lost pencils, and play cleanup crew...

Winston was so not a fan and had to be blockaded into the house...

Also this weekend, we got monogramed towels in the mail.  We haven't had new towels since... 2006, I think?  So, I was pretty pscyhed.  I was particuarly psyched to get them MONOGRAMED.  I have always wanted monogramed towels =)

Finally, we've been doing a little Christmas decorating...  There's the sofa table...

Even "Bunnatrice" is feeling festive!

Hubby got a timer for the lights on the tree outside, but it malfunctioned on the dusk timer b/c of other light, so he fixed it tonight =)

I pulled out the tea set of Spode (a sampling of Spode blasts to come!)...

Decorated my tree - there is glitter EVERYWHERE - and put some of our presents under it...

Changed out the decorations around Sunny - that's a sparkly snowman and one of my favorite hand-painted Christmas cards from my friend Analisa...

Added decorations to the topper of "Travis's tree" - you can't really see it in the dark - there are three sparkly poinsettias and blue and gold thingies coming out of the tree...

And finally decorated the mantle and hung the stockings with care =)

And now, I have work to do, laundry to iron, clean dishes to put away...  Do we really have to go back to work tomorrow?

Happy Thanksgiving!

So, I thought I'd review my thankful list from last year, and do a little update!

1. I am thankful to wake up in a warm bed in a wonderful, love-filled house, next to a puppy snuggled up to the man I love.
1. I am grateful to wake up in a king sized bed...

2. I am thankful for cool, sun-filled mornings that welcome long runs.
2. I am grateful for those long runs now with an awesome running buddy

3. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to greet my mom and dad each morning since April... and I think we are all grateful their house is close to completion too =)
3. I am thankful now that my parents are in their new house and that they were able to stay with us all day on Thanksgiving!

4. I am thankful for all the wonderful family and friends who are and who have been in my life.
4. Hasn't changed... a little bit more bittersweet today, though, since it was our first Thanksgiving without Nan and Grandma.

5. I am thankful for all the awesome people I have and do work with.
5. After a full year of working with them, I am even more thankful for the people I work with... and after a year of missing those I used to work with... I still miss them!!!

6. I am thankful that we have been blessed with the ability to own our second house before 30.
6. No change!  Except now we're 30 AND I managed to run a half marathon :)

7. I am thankful that we both have jobs we enjoy and that have allowed us to be where we need to be when we need to be there.
7. Those jobs allowed us to be there as soon as I knew I needed to be for Nan and for Grandma...

8. I am thankful for the country we live in and the sacrifices people make every day to make it what it is.

8. The more I work for medical solutions for the military community, the more thankful I am for them.

9. I am thankful my brother is in school in Winston Salem =)

9. I am SUPER-thankful that Doctor Jared is in Winston Salem, especially today!

10. I am thankful that I live with and am otherwise related to AWESOME cooks =)
10. Oh, my belly...

And now, for a couple of pictorial additions...

Grateful for the opportunity to have Daisy join us for Thanksgiving this year!

Grateful for fabulous wine selections from my mother-in-law...

Because I am thankful that my awesome doctor brother is willing to scrub the road out of my road rash...

And a dad who goes to the drug store with 20 minutes to spare before our Thanksgiving feast...

And moms and puppies to look on while I get fixed up (and the sympathy of my mom!)...

And now I realize, we took no family pictures.  Harumph.

Sickly labor

The only thing that gone done this past weekend - other than lots of sickly laundry and cleaning away the germs - was the hanging of a new painting in the kitchen.  It's one of my new favorites, painted by the ever-talented hubby!!!  So, I ask you - if you cluster a dog tail holding the leash, a beautiful painting (covering a rather unattractive brown speaker), and the security system keypad, does that make the two functional items "art"? =)

Missing a few screws.

What do you get when you add the flu, a wife too sick to protest, a bored sick husband, and a house ever at the ready for remodeling? Doors being hung back up between the kitchen and great room at 9:50pm, of course!

Happy Birthday, Grandma

This lady loved me like her own granddaughter.

I had always wanted to sew.  My own Grammy passed away before teaching me.  So she taught me how to sew.

Everyone LOVED her chocolate cake.  So she taught me how to make it.

I needed people to interview for school.  So she let me tape our conversations.

She loved music.  So I taught her how to play.

She used to make us dinner when we were in school.  Later, she shared all her broccoli stalks with Winston.  And even later, we fed her yogurt and chocolate pudding, dressed her, carried her to bed.  She LOVED chocolate pudding... and she would mostly go back to bed easily when she'd wake us up in the middle of the night, thinking it was daytime or that someone was there.  I sometimes miss those sleepless weekends.

And, I loved her grandson.  So I think she loved me for that, too.  And that love continues on every day.

She used to tell hubby he did too much, that he needed to take a break and take a nap.  Well, go figure, hubby is super-sick because no one is here to remind him to take it easy.

Happy Birthday, Grandma.

Shutter paint...

So, our neighbors had their house painted.  Painting our house trim has been on the to-do list.  What hasn't been on the to-do list?  Painting our shutters.  Why?  They're vinyl, and we didn't think you could paint vinyl shutters.  Back to the neighbors, who also have vinyl shutters, which got painted!  Travis talked to the paint guys at the store, and they said we can!  WAHOO!  NO MORE BROWN!

Well, at least no more brown once we get our paint colors approved and manage to actually find time to paint said shutters :)  SO, the fun stuff... the colors...

Hubby laughed as I quickly picked up a good number of his choices from the floor right off.  Even then, we were left with a hefty number.  I brought them to the front door and knocked off a few more.  Then he came out and knocked off a few more.  We were left with these, which I taped to the shutters!

We narrowed it down to 3 and moved them to the sunny side of the house.  Winston decided to give his two cents...

And when we had it narrowed down to two, hubby came out for a look!

So, what I'd LOVE is grey shutters and a green door.  I'm not sure the neighborhood will go for it.  We shall see!

In the meantime, Winston wanted to show you his awesome new coat, a gift from his favorite parent, aka his dad.  Check out the waggy tail, showing that love!

Bathroom progress!

This weekend, we did a little work on the bathroom, too!  I sealed the floor so that the toilet could finally make its way out of the guest room back to where it belongs.  Well, the installation didn't go so smoothly, since the bolts weren't quite long enough, but hubby is awesome and fixed it.  Now there is just a slight tweak that will need to be made on a less frustrating day. =)  He hung some artwork.  I know that picture looks ridiculously high, but it's up there because we plan to buy and put a shelf up above the toilet... we have to wait until we get to go visit our friends Chris and Caroline in Charlotte and make an Ikea trip, though!

Hubby also hung another picture, put up the towel rack, and returned some towels to the space (next to a HUGE bag of renovation trash =)  So that we can feel like we are finally making progress to calling this space complete!

Left to do?  Paint the vanity, put in new sink fixtures, tile the shower, and finish the Venetian plaster.  Oh, and the window needs a treatment.  No big deal, right?  Is this bathroom EVER going to be done???
