A welcome sight

I realize this probably seems silly, but coming home to see this made my day. Why? It was made by my hubby =)

Weekend getaway!

We've been working so hard weekday and weekend, we decided to slip away for a little R&R. Saturday morning Winston and I headed out to share the sunrise!

Winston headed back to keep hubby company, and I headed out for a run. Lucky me, I got to first watch the marathoners and then turn around and join them! At mile 16, the leader was at about 1.5 hours. Smoking!!! I waited to turn around when I could actually keep up with the runners. :)

Hubby and I headed out for some retail therapy. We found awesome sales (and yes, that's only what I bought...)!

Hubby's method of display... well...

Anyway, the weather started changing, and the wind was ridiculous!!!  It made hubby's hair stick straight up...a and stay that way.

Halfway through an amazing dinner, it started snowing.

No, seriously. See?

In fact, it was so cold this morning, I bundled up in all the layers I brought, and Winston and I headed back out. Yes that is sand AND snow!!!

It was a wonderful refresher. Just what we needed!! Pics of bathroom remodel updates to follow soon!

Love Birds

This weekend, at least one member of Turnberry Love got to enjoy the fruits of all our labors, party-style!  I threw my future sister-in-law a bridal shower this weekend... and let me tell you, it was Fun.  With a capital "F"!  The groom stopped by before the party started... he wasn't so excited to hear he was having a picture taken, but when Kayla put it in black and white, you can't really tell that he was wearing a grey shirt inside-out :)  As Kelly pointed out, he HAD showered, after all!

All the pictures were taken by Kayla Smith, a local photographer.  She took beautiful pics!!  I highly recommend her.  And now, on to the good stuff.  Hubby helped me with the food the night before (we were very proud - we worked TOGETHER in the kitchen without arguing... for the first time, ever!), and then our moms came over before the party to help with final prep.

Pork rolls, ham biscuits, spinach dip...

Lemon bars, gluten-free brownies, strawberry cupcakes...

Brie and crackers...

Party meatballs...

Fruit and fruit dip...

Caramel cake...

Gluten-free pumpkin muffins...

And the decorations - with the love bird theme, we had the bird-cage, and then there was the chevron...

The grey and white fun straws through which we sipped mango-passionfruit champagne spritzer!

Lots of pictures of the love-birds and daisies mom picked up (in honor of Daisy, of course!)!

Beautiful presents...

And a mantle with the love birds, banner, and a bird house (and a subtle hint to stay at WF, I mean homage to the place they first met - the bird house is a WF birdhouse Trav's Grandma Barbara made him!)...

 Sherry played bartender for us...

And there was LOTS of laughter...

Food that was good enough for seconds and thirds!

And our great room fit everyone just perfectly...

Lots of good conversation was had...

And, in the sunshine of a beautiful day, Jordan's women gathered around her to celebrate this happy milestone!

And then, the advice game started...  It was Jordan's soon-to-be last name, and we all had to think of a word or phrase of advice, memories, etc. for each letter.

We had LOTs of magazines, which served as very fancy writing surfaces =)

And these words of advice led to even more laughter...

Lauren (aka Wanda) and Sherry started getting themselves into trouble..

...and some of us took it a little more seriously...

...and no matter what... there was still MORE laughter...

...especially when I read Sherry's advice, swearing I wouldn't read it out loud...

...but, I did anyway.

Then, Jordan started opening her gifts.  She got lots of nice things, which she was very happy to start her married life with, since right now, it sounds like all her cooking supplies came from the dollar store. =)  We got her towels, which she was excited about, but I have to wonder - was she more excited about the towels or the nice boxes they came in?

It appears that she also really liked the silver bowl Mom gave her!

And she was super-excited to have coordinating aprons and looks forward to Jared using his!

She also got lots of other good things, but uploading these pics takes a while!  Anyway, she got great shots with almost all the party goers, including her mom, who came down from Ohio...

AND with her future female in-laws!

It was a beautiful day for a party for a beautiful bride, and it was so fun to use Turnberry Love to share the love!!!

Wish I could share a praline with you!

An early morning update

Well, progress is happening around the house!  We have a big event next weekend - a bridal shower!  Our front hallway is reminiscent of moving in =)

Meanwhile, we've made a little more progress on the bathroom!  Last weekend, I put on two more coats of Venetian plaster.  The walls are all ready for brandishing and the top coat!

Saturday, Travis started the cabinet door transformation...

Stay tuned!  You never know how much progress we'll make before the big event!!!
